To Be a Better Leader, Read These Four Books
Monday Morning Manager Series #22
I’m astounded at the depth of leadership knowledge that most of us have that we don’t credit ourselves with.
While delivering leadership programs to various people managers this week, I’ve heard them talk about the main points of the books I’ve been reading.
I have a 45-minute (if I’m lucky) drive in my new job, and I’ve taken to listening to audiobooks on the journey.
When we hear an idea in a book, it has weight because it’s backed up by research. Often though, the key points are things we already know.
Despite that, I enjoyed reading the books as listening to the audio made the ideas stick.
The Code of the Extraordinary Mind by Vishen Lakhiani
I read this book a while ago, but the takeaway from it is that most customs and norms, the ones we take so seriously, are just made up by people like you and me.
We all know this, but it resonated with me when I read the book for some reason.
I’ve found an increased sense of agency from looking at the world through a perspective of ‘this is made up by someone a long time ago who was no cleverer than me’.
